So you are going to navigate to virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads and I'll include the link in the show notes and then you can simply come down here and select windows hosts

so you can click on this and what that's going to do is it's going to automatically start downloading virtual box for you on your machine and depending on your Internet connection it might take a few minutes because it's a hundred and eight megabytes and while that is downloading.

I'll talk about what virtual box is, because Windows does not have the ability to have the native Linux file system and the underlying Unix system underneath that. What virtualbox allows us to do is it allows us to create essentially this virtual bucket where we can place any type of operating system that we want. We could put even technically another windows virtual box if you wanted to have another version of Windows on the same machine and so it's one of the most straightforward approaches for being able to have this other system running on another platform.

Right now I have Windows 10 professional on my system but if I use virtual box I can have any operating system that I want. So it looks like that has finished installing and so you can just click on it and it may open up a security window or something like that because it is an exact file.

So right here it is going to ask us to go through the steps and we're simply going to go and follow along all of the same steps that you want.

So right here it says modify, repair or remove installation and the reason why it's asking me this is because I already have the virtual box installed on my system so you're going to be seeing something completely different if you do not have virtual box already.

large

So I'm going to cancel out of mine and so I'm going to say yes because I have it on my system already but you should just go and follow along with the basic installation.

There isn't anything besides the recommended items that you're going to want to use.

Now after that has been fully installed then you can go into the windows explore and just start typing in virtualbox and it should pop up for you.

large

So right now you can see I have one image

you won't see anything here. This is one that I personally use for my own development and for tutorials but as long as this loads up after the installation process occurs then it means that you have virtualbox successfully installed on your system. And now we can work on installing linux on it and we'll do that in the next guide.
